Does anyone use a wireless usb adaptor with the CyberQ II?
I think it might work for connecting the unit to my computer. I am thinking that one could use a mini usb/standard connector to interface with a wireless adaptor that would connect to the CyberQ, that in turn, would be accessible via my wireless router.
Any thoughts or experience? |

I just purchased the CyberQ II to go with my large BGE. And to make it wireless, I also bought an IOGear Wireless USB Hub and Adapter Kit (model # GUWH204KIT) for $65.00 at Frys Electronics.
It worked instantly with the CyberQ II and my WinXP notebook.
Im going to test it out tomorrow and see if it can hold a solid connection for a 5hr cook. |

I purchased the IOgear model GUWH104KIT over the internet from expansys.
While it recognizes my flash drives and Ipod it does not recognize the CyberQ. I downloaded the latest drivers from IOgear to no avail. I am going to try to send it back |

I should have asked on my last response.
How did it work on your cook?
How far away could it be and still maintain connection?
Did it have to be "in sight" of the CyberQ?
Thank you |

I have thick sliding glass doors with a metalized window tint to keep the sun's heat out (I live in Texas).
While the Iogear packaging advertised 30ft, I found it to be 10ft line of sight and 4ft when the signal went thru the glass & metallized tint.
The connection held steady for the entire cook, and other than the short signal distance, Im pleased.
Im sorry you had problems with your Wireless USB unit. Maybe the CyberQ III will have bluetooth or wifi. |

I received my IOGEAR today and if you want one, DON'T Bother.
You'll only get about 10ft or so, not worth the money, just go a buy a longer USB cable.
I’m a little disappointed with the whole CyberQ-II to Computer connection set-up.
The controller and the computer are so interdependent that there should be a better design for a long range wireless set-up. There’s no point in connecting wirelessly if you are close enough to push the buttons on the controller.
When i have the CyberQ hooked to my cooker it works great, I love it. But if I had it to do over I would think twice about buying it knowing how many hoops you have to jump through to have it where it will do all the things you pay for. Buy a cheaper model if your looking.
I guess I now have to work on a wireless router system and see if I can get that to work over enough range. _________________ CyberQ-II

I have experienced similar issues attempting to go wireless. After talking to Guru tech support, the WiRanger was mentioned as one of two and looking at them, it appeared the best. $179 later and lucky if I get 10' and it still drops and reconnects every once in awhile. I have tried on XP and Vista with same results.
I wish we could have standard ethernet for our devices. After spending money on a CyberQ, I would like an option other than wired. |

I completley agree with Barbee Q and Smokey T.
The PC interface for this device is cutting edge for 1997.
I purchased the Tru Link wireless USB for $160. The performance of these wireless USB devices has nothing to do with BBQ Guru, but I beleive their requirement to acheive a practical user interface is a major mistake. I do have the option to buy amore powerful USB device like the Gefen, that only costs about as much as the Cyber Q, or go with a dedicated pc networked wirelessly. The hardware involved to make this a practical solution is a major disapointment. I wish I had taken more time to understand this before my purchase, I would have probably bought a lesser unit or another brand that is IP able. The unit does work great as stand alone or if it is connected directley to the USB, but if you want a wireless interface with the unit, be prepared to set up a home office next to your cooker. |

I joked on the Big Green Egg forum that they should rename the CyberQII as the CableQII. I ended up getting a USB to CAT5 converter and running a 50' CAT5 cable into the house under the door jam. This is far from an ideal solution, but it's what I've resigned myself to.
My other beef is the software interface lacks an audible alarm. This is an incredible oversight. I put a post on the Tech Support forum asking if an enhancement to address this is something we can hope for. I'm anxiously awaiting that response. |

| I tried a Trulink usb hub and it would not hold the connection past 10 feet. I returned that and picked up a 33 foot usb extension cable from monoprice and it works fine. I see Trulink has a new wireless USB super extender wireless hub out with range to 150 feet and they claim it works through walls..it is about 200 bucks I think..I think I will give that a try, as it seems to be (by far) the strongest usb hub out there right now |

I have the WiRanger USB 2.0 wireless solution and it is working well for me so far. Please read my post in "CyberqII Wishlist, Raves and Rants". _________________ Michael, True Family BBQ
